Styrontown gives me many wonderful memories. It is the birth place of my now deceased mother, Doris E. Manuel. My sister and I spent childhood summer vacations there. It was a beautiful place. We would walk and play down that shoreline and run through the woods with our relatives. I remember celebrating my greatgranfather's (Frank Styron) 100th birthday, right there in his yard! He is buried in the Styron's cemetery which is now a few yards from the shore line. This is my history, Black history, and American history!
I also have many wonderful memories of Styrontown. I remember spending time there and going to the "juke joint" run by Aunt Julia Mae, spending time with time with family..cousins Grace, Doris, Mildred, Theresa, Jennie, and just having fun. I have memories of Papa riding a bike down Styrontown beach road, etc. He looked frail even then but he was riding that bike. lol I remember our family traveling to Oriental for Papa's funeral and being stopped by the police because my dad had been drinking. He spent the night in jail but made it out in time for the funeral. Boy the humiliation he felt from that was enough to make him stop drinking for good. I remember Styrontown as being a tight knit community of loving family and friends.
I certainly have fond childhood memories of Styrontown. I remember spending summers there as a kid, catching frogs and dodging through the woods with total disregard for snakes and whatever else is in the woods now. I remember Granddad rattling the house on Sunday morning with his loud prayers! I remember hanging with my cousin Kim, Lamont, Kip, Amp, Robin and Charles. As an adult, hanging with Grandma and my best bud, Big Al! (RIP Big Fella) I also enjoyed the times when all my cousins and I were there together. Priceless memories. Hey Grandma, See you on June 6th!!
I have fond childhood memories as well. Everyone knows that me and Dwayne where like two peas in a pod, where he went I usually wasn't too far behind. Half of my childhood was spent with Gent, Pete, and uncle Abraham. I would play basketball on that grass court for hours by myself and would often beat adults twice my age. I can remember how fun it was when our cousins came from New York and Virginia and used to hangout at the shop. I can remember sometimes how cars where all the way down to Mrs Mary Louises house when Rodney, or some other cool DJ was there. I was often the youngest hanging with Dwayne, Kip, Charles, Lamont; I can always remember how they taught me to be tough or I couldn't hang with them. I didn't say much but they taught me alot about being a young man. Some of the best memories came from being at Aunt Sis Pearls' house where I remember some of the best food I have ever eaten growing up. I can even remember Tiffany and Toni teaching me about using saddlesoap on leather sneakers back then. Something I remember to do today. Now when I revisit and see the grave sites of my parents and relatives, I smile at the fun memories that I had growing up. Styrontown was my second home away from home.

What is going on and how exactly was the oceanfront dedicated?
Love this place will now have greater respect for your home roots. I understand that. I always pickup any trash so see when I am there.
